AB Cryptobox Satellite Finder Meter DVB-S2

The AB Cryptobox Meter enables the measurement of satellite signals in the DVB-S and DVB-S2 standards. It is equipped with a 2.4″ colour LCD display which shows key parameters. The device measures SNR values, BER error rate and sports a simple spectrum analysis plus the display of the constellation diagram is also available.

The dimensions of the Cryptobox Meter are 156 x 38 x 58 mm (W x H x D) and the weight is only 325 g. On the front panel there is a 2.4″ colour LCD display and buttons for controlling the device. The device allows you to turn on or off the backlight of the buttons. There is also a compass and a two-digit display to show the quality of the measured signal in percent.

The meter comes in a black plastic housing with a blue protective rubber case which has loops for attachment to a belt.

When the device is switched on, the introductory wizard for setting up the device appears. The menu is available in several languages, including English and German. The main menu called “Home” has nine items. The first item is used to set individual satellites, the meter supports DiSEqC 1.0,1.1,1.2, USALS , Unicable. The device allows measuring in both Ku band and C band. The second item “Signal” is used for the actual measurement of the satellite signal.

The device can measure transponders in the range of symbol rates SR approx. 2-45 Msym/s in both DVB-S and DVB-S2 standards. So it’s not a problem to tune in practically anything. The device also converts the SNR value from dB to percentages and displays them on a separate two-digit red display. This is especially useful in direct sunlight, where the main display is harder to read.

The level and quality of the signal is also displayed on the LCD display by a classic bar indicator and in percentages. There is also a buzzer, which can be turned on / off directly with one button on the device. The device has a built-in LED light if illumination is needed when working in poor lighting conditions.

Transponder parameters can be edited, transponders can be deleted and added. You can also add a new satellite and choose its name and parameters. The device has an extensive list of satellites, including positions for the C band. The device’s memory allows you to store 100 satellites and 4000 transponders.

The device has a replaceable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1800 mAh, the charger is included in the package. The duration of the measuring instrument is approx. 2.5 hours. The device also has a built-in compass, which is useful for the initial setting of the dish.
